HAMMERHEAD SHARK DIVE SAFARI (KWA-ZULU NATAL)

During this 7 day guided dive adventure safari we will be in search for the Hammerhead sharks, in the barely explored waters of Kwa-Zulu Natal coast line of South Africa. You will find that Hammerheads are very elusive and graceful sharks. They are normally found in there numbers of about 15 and more. Whilst on this dive safari you will also have the opportunity to see many other species of marine life, like dolphins, turtles, potato bass, moray eel and many other shark species. The other shark species you may encounter includes  rays, bull shark, tiger shark and raggies.

 

On this safari you will be staying at a quaint B and B, this is  where all your needs will be catered for. Our guided safaris are arranged during the months of October and November.

Itinerary:

 

Day 1:
Once arriving at the Durban International Airport we will make our way to the Natal Sharks Board. Here you will view the audiovisual show and further a display of the Sharks, Rays and marine life endemic to the area. There after we will be transferred to the small village of Umkomaas where you will be welcomed in typical South Africa style and hospitality. After
dinner we will have a dive briefing and prepare physiologically for the following days wonderful diving.

 

Day 2
The fist two dives today will be spent at Aliwal shoal, this is where we have the best chance to encounter hammerhead sharks. The area we are diving varies between 14 and 20 meters, the water temperature in the region of 25+ and viz between 8 and 20 meters.  The purpose of this dive is for you to get accustomed to the diving conditions, and launch from a  semi-rigid
dive boat.  This The afternoon and evenings will be spend relaxing at your own leisure (Breakfast).

 

Day 3

Today we will start the fist of two dives for the day. We will be diving at Protea banks, this dive site is rated  as one of the best shark dive sites and most certainly the most adventurous spot to dive. This will be an exiting launch form the surf to our dive site Southern pinnacles. This is where the adventure begins i in search for the Hammerhead Shark which migrates to the reef in there hundreds during October and November. You will further have a great chance to be accompanied by  Copper sharks, black fin sharks, bull, Reggie tooth sharks and many other species that frequent the reef. Visability can vary from 8 to 20 meters and the temperature 24 degrees+.  The rest of your day will be spent at your leisure (Breakfast).

 

Day 4-6

The next three days will be spend enjoying another 6 dives at Aliwal shoal and Protea bank in  search for the sharks that are endemic to the area. The afternoons and be spent at your own leisure, we may even have a trip to, Oribi gorge, croc farm, local game reserves or just relaxing in the small village of Umkomaas (Own expense) (Breakfast).

 

Day 7: 

Today we will have a lazy breakfast and bid our farewells after a trip to Ushaka see world in Durban (Breakfast).
